The Sound Bend Kickoff Party marked a major step in bringing our mission to life—connecting music, art, and community in a space created for everyone. The event tapped directly into South Bend’s local music scene, showcasing homegrown talent and uplifting artists who are expanding their platforms across the Michiana area. DJ Eric Streets, a long-time South Bend native, brought the energy with a set that reflected the city’s diverse music culture. Joining him was another local favorite, Libby Taylor, whose roots in the community run deep and whose audience continues to grow throughout the region. Together, they delivered a soundtrack that celebrated the creative spirit of the Near West Side.
The event also highlighted two new food truck businesses working hard to build their footing in South Bend: Big Mike’s and Blank Slate. By giving local entrepreneurs space to serve, we helped shine a spotlight on fresh small businesses bringing new flavor and opportunity to the neighborhood. Their presence added excitement, supported local commerce, and gave residents a taste of what’s emerging in the city’s culinary scene.
In total, more than 100 Near West Side residents came out to enjoy a day of music, records, and food. The event was open to the public and helped set the precedent for future gatherings in our unique space. Beyond entertainment, the Kickoff Party showed how arts and culture can strengthen community ties, support local talent, and create a welcoming, vibrant hub for South Bend. This is just the beginning—and we look forward to continuing to build momentum with events that bring our neighborhood together.
