The Delines - The Sea Drift [Vinyl]

From the tale of two brothers leaving a convenience store after a shop-lifting gone wrong incident outside of Lake Charles, to a middle-aged woman driving aimlessly outside of Galveston unable to go home to her waiting family. From the 60's pop of "Kid Codeine" to the soul romance of "Hold Me Slow," Vlautin is one of pop’s outstanding storytellers… No one has a better eye for the telling detail, or a keener ear for the heartbreaking phrase… Front-woman Amy Boone’s voice is equal parts double cream and liquid smoke.

“Boone’s rich, Rickie Lee Jones–meets–Chrissie Hynde voice is the careworn bedrock upon which these bruised, dynamics–rich songs depend… There’s no mistaking it’s pedigree.” MOJO – 4 Stars ****

“Portland sextet return from the brink in imperious fettle… Boone is on terrific form and these sad tales are given empathetic grace by The Delines’ stirring arrangements.” Uncut – 8/10
